labelfixThe Steps

  1. Submit an application available by clicking here or you can have one mailed by contacting Lisa by phone 269-687-4332.

  2. After reviewing the application the kitchen manager will meet with you to discuss your product and give you dates for SCORE Business Start-up classes which are required unless you have proof of having taken a similar course prior to this meeting. SCORE classes are offered several times throughout the year.

  3. After the Niles Main Street ER Committee and SCORE have reviewed your application a meeting is arranged with the kitchen manager to discuss specific details and requirements (production methods, packaging, labeling, etc.)

  4. Once approved you will be granted a license to operate your food business at NECI and will be responsible for paying all costs.

  5. You must then successfully complete ServSafe food safety certification prior to using the kitchen on your own. ServSafe classes are offered six times per year at NECI and cost $149 per person.

  6. Now it is time to obtain appropriate general business liability and product liability insurance in the amount of $1 mil listing with the City of Niles, Niles DDA Main Street and Leader Publications as additional insured and sign a formal agreement with NECI prior to using the Kitchen Incubator.

  7. You will then meet with NECI staff to set a schedule for kitchen usage and pay all applicable rental fees. ($12/hr for producers, $15/hr for caterers)

  8. Once all the above steps have been completed, you may begin you business utilizing the Kitchen Incubator at NECI! Congratulations!
