New in 2013  “NILES, Then & Now”
This book contains photos, descriptions and history of the ninety-six historic properties in the Niles, Michigan, Downtown Historic District.  These properties date from the 1850s to 1960s with two and three-story buildings predominating, and from Greek Revival and Italianate to1950s and 60s modern in design.  For much of the twentieth century Niles was the home of the Kawneer Company, specialists in storefront design. As a direct result, Niles is considered a museum of Kawneer storefront design from the 1920s to the 1960s.

The design Committee of the Niles Downtown Development Authority published this book based on the compilation of the 2013 Historic District Study Committee Report.  As a result of the report, Niles earned a Local Historic District Designation, making it one of only 75 Michigan Cities that have earned this honor.
